Flood Notification 01 – FLOOD ADVISORY
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Advisory for the Island of MAUI in effect until 9:45 p.m. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 9:45 p.m. if heavy rain persists.
EFFECTS: At 6:30 p.m. radar showed an area of moderate to heavy showers approaching the windward coast of Maui from Paia to Keanne to Hana to Kaupo. This area of showers was moving west at 20 mph.
Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Nahiku, Makawao, Kipahulu, Huelo, Hamoa, and Haiku.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: STAY AWAY FROM STREAMS, DRAINAGE DITCHES AND LOW LYING AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING. RAINFALL AND RUNOFF WILL ALSO CAUSE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO PONDING, REDUCED VISIBILITY AND POOR BRAKING ACTION. DO NOT CROSS FAST FLOWING OR RISING WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE OR ON FOOT. TURN AROUND…DON’T DROWN.
