DETAILS:
North Shore Pilates is top of their game for Pilates on Maui. This small and exclusive studio is known mostly to insiders and offers three expertly-trained instructors working with a wide-range of apparatus. Focused on high-end personalized attention, NSP only offers very small groups (of no more than three) and also one-on-one personal sessions. Being located on the North Shore also makes this studio a convenient place for surfers to condition when they’re not in the water.

I hesitate to use the word “exclusive” because they’re actually open to anyone and their rates are highly competitive for the level of personal attention you receive. Nonetheless, when you walk through the door you absolutely feel like you’ve got your own personal Hollywood trainer – and, actually, it is because you do! The owner/instructor Anne Mari Snyder trained and worked in one of Hollywood’s most elite Pilates studios.

If you haven’t gathered already, NSP isn’t your high-volume health-club kind of place – so overcrowded classes are not what you’ll find here. However it is very impressively equipped with a wide range of Pilates-specific apparatus: Reformer, Cadillac/Trapeze Table, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector/Step Barrel and spring boards. Besides the specialized Pilates gear, they’re also stocked with other complimentary core-training tools such as weights, resistance bands, balls and rings. And they’re the only studio on Maui that offers Bio-Mat as an addition to your session. Perhaps the most impressive of the complimentary training tools that are only available at this studio is the totally sweet ocean view overlooking Paia Bay – just feast your eyes on that while you’re training for some inspiration!

The studio is also well connected within the local bodywork and healing communities, so when a pre-existing injury/ailment can benefit with treatment outside of Pilates practice, NSP can bring in on-call professionals, keeping everyone expertly focused on their core competency.

Oh, and besides Pilates, they also have something else that is usually lacking in Paia: parking!
