Description:
Okay, after I wrote this article, I couldn't resist and got in my car and drove to Paia to get an Obama burger! Since my hankering fell between lunch and dinner, I also avoided a line. (Mind you, this was all in the name of hard work and a thorough review :)

Bottom line is that this is one of the best places to get fresh fish dishes on North Shore (and beyond.)

Amazingly fresh fish, cooked to perfection, and served to you by the chef (when he tosses it up on the counter and yells out your number!) Guests can swiftly consume the tasty morsels on often crowded communal picnic tables - or better yet, take it to go, and picnic on a nearby beach. (Paia Bay is short walk and Baldwin Beach Park is not much further.)

Portions are large and service is fast. And if you haven't already deduced, the atmosphere here is super casual. (In fact it is so casual, I don't even think you need to wear a shirt to be served!)

Surf photos of Jaws, and fish artwork (many for sale) adorn the walls and a mix of surfers, tourists and locals wait in line for a tasty meal.

Sharing picnic tables with strangers may seem like a bit of a stretch for some, but the locals are friendly and it makes for interesting conversation - in fact many online reviewers comment that they enjoyed the company almost as much as the food. If dining elbow-to-elbow with strangers is simply not your speed, relocating to the beach is a tempting option. (Let them know when they take your order and they'll pack it to go - be sure to grab some plasticware and napkins from the counter, because they don't throw it in the bag automatically.)

Favorites are the fish & chips (made with mahi-mahi), the ono burger and the yummy fish tacos. Another favorite is the "Obama burger" which is Cajun seasoned white fish (ono) topped with wasabi butter, cole slaw and grated cheese. Mmmm...I'm going to drive down and get one of those right now (and I'm not even kidding!)
