Rating: *how we rate restaurants
Tucked inside the Grand Wailea Resort, Humuhumunukunukuapua'a is a Pacific Island themed restaurant, complete with thatched hut-style, exposed rough-finished wood construction (including native ohia logs for supports.) Built hovering over over a stocked salt-water lagoon, it is definitely the kind of grand tropical design you've seen perusing travel magazines.
The humuhumunukunukuapua'a is the colorful (currently unofficial) Hawaiian state fish. Fell free to call the restaurant(and the fish) Humu, as the full name is quite a mouthful!
Sitting adjacent to the picture-perfect Wailea Beach, Humu's boasts equally perfect beach and ocean views - a wonderful spot to watch the sun set. While it may not be on my "best of the best" list for Maui restaurants, Humu's is solid on the food and not lacking whatsoever when it comes to service, setting, ambiance and mood.
Humu's offers Pacific Rim style seafood and steaks. If you have cash to burn, you can fish your own spiny lobster out of the pond and have 'em cook it up for you. (Be ready to drop at least a Benjamin for this extravagance!) Pricing on other dishes is also Maui resort-level, so be ready to drop some dough here.
