In a nutshell
I am absolutely in love with this complex and this and her sister unit!
I’ve been inside literally hundreds of condos. It takes a lot to impress me these days, and in a nutshell you simply will not be able to beat the combination of location, quality and price offered here. These are rare gems.
Tips: larger parties can book both units together since they are adjacent. This unit is not appropriate for young children, if you have young children in the party, check out Annie’s Place next door.
Keawakapu is a small 18-unit building tucked into a tiny hillside at the edge of the Wailea-Kihei border. The building is set quietly well off the road, and it has a uniquely peaceful and private feel that you don’t normally expect from a condo. It helps that the building isn’t packed with tourists, which definitely adds to the feeling of retreat. (Most of the 18 units are residentially occupied, with only five in vacation rental.)
As you walk to the unit, the balcony walkway is screened in with lush Arica palms, and a tropical villa vibe starts to sink in. The fact that this is a small building well loved by the individual condo owners is tacit. Being here is a whole different experience than one of the larger condos where tourism is the primary focus.
Since the building is built into a hill, the configuration of this particular unit makes it second floor on one side and ground floor on the other. On the mountain-facing side you have parking and the front door is up a flight of stairs on the second floor balcony. On the ocean-facing side this unit is on the ground floor, which allows for the living room to open up into a private lanai and semi-private lawn.
Inside the unit everything is new. From top to bottom the entire unit was tastefully remodeled and furnished to a level of quality typically reserved for much more expensive private vacation homes. It is immediately apparent that quality was the first priority in both construction and furnishing.
Examples of the luxury-quality choices are everywhere you turn. A few include: Full-wall-to-ceiling stacking lanai doors that slide the ocean-view living room wall wide-open to the outside. Top-quality couch, leather chairs, carved wood island furniture. Ultra-quiet high-end Bosch dishwasher. Luxurious organic latex mattresses fitted with hotel quality linens (supplied/washed/pressed by a professional Hotel linen company!) These are just a sampling of the extras that you would really only expect to see in much more expensive luxury rentals and hotels.
Oh, and besides the things you can see, there are just as many out-of-sight upscale features that also serve guests ultimate comfort. Some examples of what you won’t see are the sound reducing acoustic windows, soundboard drywall and thick solid interior doors. Careful consideration to high quality and eco and health conscious construction materials are at every turn.
Deep cleanliness and maintenance are also tightly dialed in and well worthy of mention. We have very high standards and came away just as impressed as we were with every other aspect of how this rental is presented.
Bedrooms & Sofabed
The master bedroom has a long/western king size bed that features a luxury Essentia organic latex mattresses. (This bedroom can also be configured as two twins upon prior request.)
The office/guest bedroom queen Murphy bed also uses an organic latex Essentia mattress. This is a well engineered quality bed. (I actually watched Alexa who is a petite 4’11” mother raise and lower it easily with just one hand!) The Murphy bed might raise questions regarding comfort for some, but this is very high quality bed with a luxury mattress. There was no discernible difference in comfort between this bed and the bed in the master bedroom.
The Lazy Boy couch in the Living Room converts to a coil spring/air mattress Queen bed. The linens are available upon request.
Located at the north end border of Wailea/south end boarder of Kihei.
From this convenient and central location you can get anywhere in South Maui within a few minutes by car. Dozens of the worlds best beaches in Kihei, Wailea and Makena are nearby. Five world-class golf courses within minutes to choose from.
An easy couple minute walk from the complex grounds brings you to Keawakapu Beach, a .7 mile long and beautiful sand beach with stunning views of Molokini and West Maui mountains. An added bonus; at the beach entrance you can rent stand up paddleboards, kayaks, snorkel gear, and bikes. You will also find an activity center, ocean view yoga classes, a deli-general store, plus a couple great open air beachfront restaurants (Sarentos on the Beach and Five Palms.)
Since the unit is high quality and the owners offer it at such a reasonable price, they do have a couple of rules that are important to consider if you are thinking of staying here. The first is that guests are mature and respectful. No parties are allowed and the unit will not be rented to guests under 25 (older children with guests are ok.) The unit is not appropriate for young children as there are many breakables and not child proof – however these owners have a very similar unit right next door that is appropriate for young children.
